Time is running short.
On June 20, the DR Congo issued invitations for international election observers. It is critical that the Government of Canada accepts this invitation and sends an Election Observation team to ensure that the November 28 presidential and parliamentary elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are free and fair.
By taking this simple action, Canada can help prevent an escalation of conflict in the troubled Democratic Republic of the Congo. The very fact of independent international observers on the ground will encourage the Congolese Government to conduct the elections within international norms.
